Once a more fierce lion-headed deity, this daughter of Ra's more aggressive nature shifted onto her sister Sekhmet and Bastet was associated with maternal duties and domestic cats. She is the defender of pregnant women, mothers, and children. Bastet, also known as Bast, tried to keep her followers safe through her powers of home protection, such as keeping out evil spirits and diseases.
