Tarot for Your Self: A Workbook for the Inward Journey, by Mary K. Greer, 35th Anniversary Edition, Foreword by Benebell Wen, published by Weiser Books, 2019 (9781578636792 softcover)

Barbara Moore claimed that this was one of the "most loved" tarot books, and Benebell Wen notes in the foreword how Tarot for Your Self caused a "paradigm shift" in the development of tarot reading (13).  Rachel Pollack agreed, writing in her review of the anniversary edition, “Mary K. Greer's Tarot For Your Self revolutionized the world of tarot like no other book before or since. At a time when almost all tarot books were either formulas for fortune-telling or complicated occult doctrines — and virtually everyone said you must never read for yourself — Mary Greer broke open the rules by showing us how to explore the many ways we ourselves could discover meaning and the power in the cards. She did not simply ignore, or discard, what had gone before. Instead, she studied and absorbed the meanings and teachings, and then showed us how to use them for our own explorations. It is a pleasure—and a moment of great benefit to the tarot world—to see this magical book in a new edition.”

Mary K. Greer is an independent scholar, writer, teacher, and tarot consultant.  She taught tarot at the collegiate level since 1974 and was a teacher at New College of California in San Francisco.  In 2007, Mary received the International Tarot Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Tarot Studies. She also received the 2006 Mercury Award from the Mary Redman Foundation for excellence in communication in the metaphysical field, and the 2006 Coalition of Visionary Resources award for best divination book. Mary is an ordained priestess in the Fellowship and Church of Isis. Visit her at marykgreer.com.
