The mythology of the Celts can be claimed to be one of the jewels of the European cultural heritage. Ward Rutherford offers us a window on pagan Celtic society and culture and explores their love of spectacle, strict marital code, and love of the good things in life.

This book includes stories on entering the Otherworld, Anu and the river goddesses, Brigit the exalted one, The Morrigán the phantom queen, Medb she who intoxicates, Macha godess of many lives, Rhiannon the great queen, Ceridwen keeper of the cauldron, Arianrhod the lady of the wheel, Gods and heroes, Cernunnos master of the hunt, The Dagda the big father, Manannán and Manawydan lords of the mist, Lugh and Lleu gods of strength and skill, Oenghus the young lover, Cú Chulainn the hound of Ulster, Gwydion the trickster-magician, Brân guardian of the land, and Taliesin the divine poet. Concludes with discussions about the goddesses and gods in our lives, the mysteries and the virtues, storytelling, and the living tradition.

Ward Rutherford was a Brighton, East Sussex, history-writer, journalist, and playwright.  He has been described as having wide interests which are born out by his literary works, which, mostly focus on military history, especially World War II, although he's written on some World War One topis; and, alternatively, iron-age and stone-age Britain, and mythological topics.  So, you'll find his works on Druidism (The Druids and their Heritage), Pythagoras (Pythagoras Lover of Wisdom), and Celtic Mythology along side works on the battle at Kesserine Pass and Erwin Rommel.
