Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior, translated by Tibetan meditation master Chögyam Trungpa in 1978, presents a secular, "non-religious" path of warriorship based on cultivating personal courage, gentleness, and wisdom to foster an "enlightened society". Unlike mainstream Buddhism, this book was groundbreaking upon release for stripping away cultural, ritualistic, and esoteric trappings of religion to offer a universal guide to basic human dignity that was accessible to people of any belief system. Shambhala's significance lay in addressing the spiritual needs of Westerners by bridging Eastern psychology with a practical, modern approach to overcoming ego and fear through "fearlessness." The legacy ofShambhala is lasting and widespread, having established a global community, a specialized training program, and a profound, albeit sometimes controversial, influence on applying contemplative mindfulness to everyday life, social action, and the arts.

Chögyam Trunpa (1939-1987)--meditation master, teacher, and artist--founded Naropa University, Shambhala Training, and an international association of meditation centers known as Shambhala International. He is the author of many books, including Meditation in Action and Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism.

Second is a used copy of the Shambhala Dragon Edition. Dragon Editions primarily focused on foundational and contemporary teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and other contemplative traditions. This issue is the 16th printing of the 1984 edition. There is some curling of the front cover, and faint pencil marks of the previous owner's name on the "editions" half-title page, but otherwise a tight and clean book. Blue and gold endpapers make the Dragon Edition special.
