Kali Stepping on Shiva's Chest

The Hindu goddess Kali is a fascinating figure, representing time, creation, destruction, violence, and power. In some stories, she is even seen as a divine protector. Her origins are varied and complex, but in one particular tale, she emerged from the goddess Durga, with dark blue skin, sunken eyes, a tiger skin garment, and a garland of human heads. Kali is known for defeating the undefeated demon Raktabija by draining his blood before he could reproduce, her bloody rampage calmed only when confronted by Shiva, whom she was standing on.
