Cascarilla Powder is common in folk magic, Santeria, and conjure traditions and is used for protection, cleansing, and repelling negative energy.  Originally, cascarilla was a finely ground powder from a cascarilla tree (croton eluteria, same genus as dragon's blood, and native to the Bahamas), but as the tree was unavailable in North America, egg shells tended to become the primary substitute.  

As a protection powder, cascarilla helps against psychic attacks and "energy vampires". It can also be used to keep away non-corporeal entities (ghosts, demons, and other malevolent spirits).  Use it in your bath for purification.  Use also when making the sign of the cross for additional psychic protection.

Like the shell (or bark) from which it is derived, cascarilla creates a barrier between your inner world and the outer world.  Use it like black salt and lay it in a line across a threshold or sill as a barrier to malevolent energies; or keep a sachet, bundle, or dish of cascarilla powder to repel or absorb negative energy. 

Other uses and considerations: Cascarilla powder can be used during meditation, astral projection, or visualizations.  Cascarilla powder when made into a chalkstick can be used to draw sigils and circles of protection for magical rituals.  Cascarilla is neutral with respect to spirits, thus if your are attempting spirit communication, cascarilla may inhibit contact.
